Making Baby Legs (a.k.a. leg warmers)

I have an addiction.  Well, you probably know that from my material supply :)

I love showing off how cute Brooke is in her cloth diapers.  The best way to do that is with her leg warmers.  I had some that I purchased off of Etsy for the twins.  They held up nicely and I toyed with the idea of making some and how the ones I bought were made.  Anyway, as you know, I don't have a ton of time on my hands and just purchased a few more for Brooke in the infant size.

Again, I looked at them and thought that they were just made from knee-high socks.  They are one whole piece of the leg with a simple cuff on the bottom, serge them together and you've got leg warmers.  Well, as I was shopping in Target last week, I ran across some knee-highs in the same print as the LWs I had just bought.  My thought was confirmed, so just like that I bought 3 other pairs to make my own.

Simple as can be.  Here's what you need: 1 pair of knee-highs (at least 8" for infant or 12" for toddler), scissors, sewing machine or serger.  Basically, cut off the top of the sock at the length you desire the LW to be.  Cut off the toe and heal, keeping the section inbetween that matches the pattern of the top.  I narrow this tube with a small seam, 1/8", on the sole of the sock (I will get a photo to show this up) and then turn and fold in half with right side out.  Pin to the leg part and run a seam to attach the cuff to the LW.  Done.  Takes a whole of 10 minutes at the most, in fact getting my machine out and putting it back away took more time than anything else, go figure :)

Now go make some for your little one.  If you are not handy or don't have a machine you can check out the shop I got mine from, she has a fantastic selection: Crawler Covers & More or maybe I will start stocking a few once I get the store up and running again.

Thanks for reading :)

Yeah Catherine :)  I'm so happy for you!!

So here it is!  Sorry for the delay :)  We are getting dumped on with another 8" of snow and I told the kiddos we can play in the snow once Mommy gets this post up (that should buy me about 3 minutes of peace)...

The All Minkee Diaper by Three Monkeys Cloth Diapers

I tried to get a picture that really showed the plush-ness of these diapers.  They are great!!

For those of you that do not know what Minkee is, it's a soft, furry polyester material that is mostly used in baby items (the fuzzy side of baby loveys are often minkee).  The benefit of using it on a diaper is #1. obviously, it's super soft (imagine that touching your backside, *sigh*), #2. it's polyester, so it will not wick and #3. it resists staining and washes very well.

I have offered minkee as an upgrade for my diapers for years, but I finally decided to try the minkee on the outside as well (not a super original idea, I saw other companies doing it and I was like, hey that's fun).   Does it really serve any advantages over the other styles?  No.  But it's soft and snugly, that counts for something.

I have these two, in my only minkee prints, made up in the S/M with the flap soaker.  This is my personal favorite style of diaper, but it can be made in the OS pocket or any of the fitted single sizes.

Brooke loves them.  O.K., I love them on her, she just loves a clean dry bottom.  But they are super cute and I hate putting clothes on over these :)

Left: snapped down for Small rise.
Below: unsnapped for Medium rise.
Crossover snaps offer snug fit for even the littlest of littles, I should have had these on hand at the end of September.  I've been a bit bored of single snap colors lately, so I jazzed them up with a mix of coordinating snaps (this definitely takes more time since the perfectionist in me has to have the pattern of snap mix-ups the same), but it does make them even more fun :)  Now for all you mommas of boys, I do apologize for the limited choices (it's either solid colors or Zebra), but paired with the blue minkee inner, the Zebra is still super cute for those little men!!

Flap made with minkee lining, 2 layers of Zorb and bottom layer of pink terry attached for ease of use.

3 Monkeys Fabrics is Now OPEN

I had mentioned it before, but I finally did it.  I opened a store to sell off some of my fabrics.  I decided that even if I sew everyday for the rest of my life, I will never use all this fabric I have :)  My brand new material room is filled to the ceiling (much to my husbands dismay since he put up pretty crown molding) and I need to get some out so I can get steady supply of new stuff.

Anyway, here it is: 3monkeysfabrics.  LMK if I don't have a fabric up that you are interested in.  I will not list every print because it will cost me an arm and a leg to do that, but I do have some prints that I have huge bolts of and ones that are a little less popular for diapers.
